How Do I Know If I'm Burned Out?

Burnout is typically marked by seven recognizable signs: overwhelming physical and emotional exhaustion, a cynical or negative outlook, reduced performance and productivity, detachment from work or colleagues, difficulty concentrating, physical symptoms like headaches or muscle tension, and a loss of enjoyment in things you used to like. Symptoms lasting more than two weeks are worth having assessed.

• Persistent exhaustion, even after rest

• Cynicism, irritability, or emotional flatness

• Declining performance or productivity

• Detachment from work, colleagues, or responsibilities

• Trouble concentrating or forgetfulness

• Physical symptoms — headaches, tension, sleep disruption, frequent illness

• Loss of enjoyment in things that used to feel good.

Burnout differs from ordinary stress in duration and depth: stress tends to ease once the demand passes, while burnout persists and deepens even when the acute pressure lifts. A Mental Health Assessment can help clarify which one you're experiencing.
